My name is Dr. John Foley, and I am a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine (MD) and Vanderbilt University, where I earned dual B.A.s in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Spanish. I graduated cum laude with a 3.74/4.0 GPA and scored in the top 6% of MCAT test takers. I have a strong background in the basic sciences, including Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Biochemistry. Additionally, I am bilingual in Spanish and have experience teaching medical Spanish to medical students.
I have over 10 years of experience as a private tutor in various subjects, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math (through Precalculus), AP Spanish, SAT/ACT preparation, and MCAT preparation. My passion for teaching and helping students grasp complex concepts led me to work as a teacher’s aide for a year in math and science classes at Claremont High School in Worcester, Massachusetts. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to inspire students and emphasize the importance of learning.
My teaching strategy is interactive and problem-solving oriented, rather than lecture-based. I encourage students to think critically rather than passively absorb information. I know firsthand the impact of an excellent teacher—I would not have made it to medical school without the guidance of a few exceptional educators in high school and college. My deep understanding of science stems not only from academics but also from hands-on research. I worked as a researcher at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the FDA, where I studied HIV, West Nile Virus, and Hepatitis C Virus. As an undergraduate, I also conducted research on Type I Diabetes at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Just as my teachers inspired me, I strive to motivate my students to reach their full potential. Helping students succeed is my passion, and I am fully committed to supporting them in achieving their goals.

John is a very intelligent, reliable, and kind tutor that I would definitely recommend to any science student.
